In 2012, the European Commission imposed strict controls on the export of drugs needed to carry out lethal injections – which have been used in US executions since 1982.
An untuned prototype supporting fine-grained protection of the real-world application WU-FTP resulted in less than a 15% slowdown while demonstrating CuPIDS' ability to quickly detect illegitimate behavior, raise an alarm, automatically repair the damage done by the fault or attack, allow the application to resume execution, and export a signature for the activity leading up to the error.
Now Brussels has imposed its own restrictions on "execution drug" exports.
"We also need to see action from the European Commission to block the export of execution drugs from the E.U. to the U.S.," a Reprieve spokeswoman, Maya Foa, said in a statement.
European companies producing drugs like sodium thiopental, a sedative legally required for lethal injections in the United States, must now provide assurances that their products will not be used for executions before they can export them.
It planned to produce the drug in Italy, but the Italian government has said it won't permit the drug's export for use in executions.
The catalog will capture workflow, holding entries for each simulation activity including, at least, data importing and staging, data pre-processing and input preparation, code execution, data storage, post-processing and exporting.
The 18-month pause in executions occurred after the European Union banned the export of chemicals used for lethal injections, making them scarce.
The legal charity Reprieve said this was enough to kill at least 10 prisoners, and called for urgent action to ban the export of drugs used in executions.
In March, the Netherlands became the first EU country to stop arms exports to Saudi Arabia, citing mass execution and civilian deaths in Yemen.
