Examples of themes include: the Active Plus exercise program for the over-fifties (van Stralen et al., 2008), or Cultivando la Salud, an intervention to increase cancer screening among low income Hispanic women in the US (Fernández et al., 2005; Fernández et al., 2009).
Examples of themes contradictory to, or not adequately explained by, the framework were sought.
Analysis focused on identification of issues as well as examples of themes such as: experiences with research, use of research, lack of research utilization, perceived barriers to use of research and exploration of expressed value and criteria by decision-makers.
Examples of themes that were further investigated are the importance of getting the morning care done in time, and the fact that the work appeared to flow automatically during the day.
Examples of themes that were addressed are: What rules they thought governed the practice in the nursing home; whether they were familiar with the new regulations; how they knew how to help different residents and how they knew what to do on different shifts.
Examples of themes might include a focus on thimbles/chatelaines/needle cases/tape measures, etc., (see list below for a whole range of ideas), or it could be slightly broader, such as bone or pearl sewing trinkets, or sewing machine items, etc. Choose a country or region.
6. Vivid and representative examples of each theme code and theme will be then selected that relate to the research question.
This involved identifying common themes and examples of these themes until 'theoretical saturation' was achieved (no new themes emerged from the data).
We constructed questions using these key themes from the literature leaving additional space for respondents to add in other issues (see table 1 for an example of themes and references identified from literature in questionnaire development on topic of barriers to searching and using scientific research evidence in practice).
