Examples of defect engineering in the technology of Si-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with the room temperature (RT) Er- and Ho-related luminescence as well as SiGe-based LEDs with the RT near-band-edge luminescence are discussed.
The first example of defect engineering conducted by Xie and co-workers focused on the exposure of additional active edge planes by forming cracks on the surfaces of nanosheets (Fig. 8a) [42].
Examples of such defects are forgeries, invalid or undiscovered wills, defective probate proceedings, or transfers of property by persons lacking full legal capacity to contract.
Examples of such defects are lack of penetration, over-penetration, lack of fusion, undercut, and poor profile.
While in genomics, examples of biological defects can include mutations in the gene activation site, malformation of the protein folding, and problems in the gene product transport.
Figure 2A shows approximately half of one section from a WSB/EiJ testis, illustrating representative examples of the defects we observed.
Animal models have provided information on the mechanisms by which alcohol affects facial development and the factors that may make a fetus more susceptible to these facial changes (see figure 1B and C for examples of craniofacial defects in the mouse and zebrafish).

For example, the formation of defects by irradiation with high-energy ions, which has been used to create mesopore defects in zeolites,[ 120] could be equally efficient in CNCs/MOFs.
Examples of neural tube defects include the absence of brain (anencephaly) and a cyst replacing the cerebellum.
