Prosecutors contended that the contracts had been awarded by Mr. Abbruzzese as gifts after Mr. Bruno secured two $250,000 state grants that another Abbruzzese-linked company, Evident Technologies, received in 2003 and 2004.
A federal grand jury has sought, among other things, information about state grants that Senator Bruno directed to Evident Technologies, an Albany-area company in which Mr. Abbruzzese was an investor.
Mr. Bruno also directed public money to companies connected to Mr. Abbruzzese, including a $250,000 grant to Evident Technologies and a $2.5 million grant to the Sage Colleges, the indictment said.
CdSe/ZnS dots were obtained from Evident Technologies.
