For ball-milling V 4Cr 4Ti powders with varying nano-yttria content, the exponential supremacy of cold-welding (Fig. 1c e) is evident leading to the agglomeration of powders.
The 6Ru/TiO2 ZrO2 catalyst is attributed to the decrease in the number of active sites of ruthenium on TiO2 ZrO2 due to agglomeration as evident from XRD, TPR and CO chemisorption results.
Assuming the nanoparticles to be exactly spherical and also evident from TEM, particle agglomeration number was calculated from the following expression [37] (8).
Using XRD-derived values for crystallite sizes, theoretical surface area values were determined; the changes evident lead us to conclude that agglomeration is occurring.
