Thus, consistent with other results (Indovina and Sanes 2001; Maier et al. 2002; Wiestler et al. 2011), we found evidence for representations of individuated finger movements in multiple contralateral cortical regions.
Supporting evidence for this representation of HA is also provided by 3D modeling studies carried out by Schulten and Schnitzer.[31, 32] Using semiempirical calculations and known chemical features of HAs, they arrived at a set of open structures containing numerous voids (Fig. 3).
Other evidence for columnar representation of optic flow is for area MST from double-label 2-deoxyglucose or reconstructed electrophysiological methods [47] [49].
Because of these limitations we were only able to provide suggestive evidence for over representation of specific biological processes affected by positive selection.
A previous study reports that chimpanzees are quite accurate and fast responding to numerosities 1 3, while for numerosities larger than 4 they show a monotonic increase in reaction time [24] and evidence for a representation of small sets on the basis of one-to-one correspondence has been provided for other non-human primates [19], [62].
In highlighting the possible importance of IPD at a behavioural level, our results are consistent with electrophysiological evidence for the representation of IPD in the auditory system, both at the single neuron (Yin & Kuwada, 1983; Spitzer & Semple, 1995) and at the population level (McAlpine et al., 2001).
Yet our findings are generally compatible with evidence for pitch representations in early auditory cortex including lateral HG as all discriminative voxel maps of melodic representations (i.e., a variation of pitch over time) involved patterns spanning from HG to PT (Fig. 4).
Evidence for snapshot representations comes from studies of navigating insects and mammals.
Although hedonic representations are plastic, as seen above, the present demonstration that two different species exhibited similar preferences for the same odorants provides evidence for odor representations conserved across mice and humans, which emerge independently of life experience.
However, we argue in this subsection that Hampton's result is indeed evidence for meta-representation.
