DAVID WAX On "Everything Is Saved," the producer, Sam Kassirer, was steering us toward embracing ways we could meld and play with the two styles, so there wasn't such a clear distinction between the Americana songs and the songs that were our interpretations of the Mexican folk music.
Their rousing performances at the 2011 Newport Folk Festival main stage and South by Southwest drew praise from critics, led to national tours with acts like the Carolina Chocolate Drops and gave a boost to their album "Everything Is Saved," and its infectious single "Born With a Broken Heart".
The unique blend of Mexican-American folk rock on their second and third albums, 2010's Carpenter Bird and 2011's Everything Is Saved, was both earnest and catchy and demonstrated lead man David Wax's lyrical inventiveness.
"I lost everything, but I saved the most important person in my life.
"I started to write everything down, like, 'I saved 20 cents today by parking at a meter that still had time on it.' I tell things I wouldn't tell my family".
Every Monday I spend an hour catching up on everything I've saved the week before.
I have already used everything I had saved and charged my credit cards to the limit to pay medical costs.
"Everything I had saved I invested in this store," said Robinson Valderrama, 30, who is from Colombia and who last year opened a clothing shop, Stylus Boutique, in a storefront facing 84th Street.
