Now, films of these events and other everyday tales of British rural life over the last 100 years have been released online by the British Film Institute.
Hannah – like Patricia Highsmith and Ruth Rendell before her - is an expert at exploring the fine, delicate line between the ordinary and the monstrous, yet she interweaves her everyday tales of warped psychology with a healthy dose of humour, some of it sophisticated and knowing.
Tom Wells has created a stormer of a central character for this not-so-everyday tale of Withernsea folk – the title puns on "folk" as "ordinary" people and "folk" as musical genre (musical director James Frewer cleverly intersperses his original compositions with familiar tunes).
It is an everyday story of internet folk and this time the tale is particularly heartwarming.
While the photographs are mostly prosaic — showing documents and buildings and more expressionless people — the accompanying texts are filled with stories of the fantastical mixed with the everyday, like fairy tales for the postmodern age.
