That's according to the Directors Guild of America's latest report analyzing the gender and ethnicity of directors hired by prime-time television shows across broadcast and cable networks, as well as rising Internet networks such as Netflix and Amazon.

The report by the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at the University of Central Florida polled every major college on the ethnicity of its coaches, athletic directors, presidents, faculty, student athletes and N.C.A.A. faculty representatives.
"It is our strong opinion that the closures are based on ethnicity," said the firm's managing director, Emma Nawaz.
The "wallpaper effect" is to blame for the lack of attention to African American unemployment, said Valerie Rawlston Wilson, director of the race, ethnicity and economy program at the Economic Policy Institute.
And "outmarriage," mostly to whites and other Asians, is diluting the ethnicity to the point that Larry Hajime Shinagawa, director of the Center for the Study of Culture, Race and Ethnicity at Ithaca College in New York, said most Japanese-Americans face only two directions -- assimilating into "whiteness" or adopting a "pan-Asian" identity.
Algernon Austin, the director of the race, ethnicity and economy programme at the Economic Policy Institute, said the figure for black Americans had been hovering at or above 14% for the past three years, even with a 'recovery' supposedly under way.
