The ethics of conviction and the ethics of responsibility are not contradictory, they are mutually complementary.
The deontologist does not reason in terms of consequences but of universal duties, a viewpoint that comes close to an ethics of conviction, according to which nobody can decide on a person's QoL [ 25, 26].
