In the U.S., Ant Financial's strategy is a little different since there is already an established payment system.
This is especially in an international scenario where penetrations of established payment methods – like credit card in the U.S. – are rather low, consumers need alternative forms of payment to make online purchases.
"Consumers already worried about the security of established payment mechanisms are likely to view a new technology and process with suspicion," commented Eden Zoller, principal analyst at Ovum. "On the positive side, Samsung is a hugely popular smartphone brand with global reach, while PayPal is a trusted payments service provider.
That decision indicates that Square is looking to expand its footprint further into the small business solution provider market, where dongle- and iPad-based payment processing alone now faces increased competition from a number of competitors, ranging from banks to POS providers and even established payment companies like PayPal.
Issuing business loans, in that regard, also would help Stripe compete better against the rest of the payments and financial services pack, including other tech-first companies like Square and PayPal, more established payment and credit firms like American Express, and of course traditional banks.
Fred Wilson of USV highlighted one of the key, attractive points for why bitcoin is potentially very disruptive for established payment platforms and currencies: "If I'm sending you money, why should that cost me or anyone?" he asked during an appearance at Disrupt in New York earlier this year.
Judge Kennedy said this argument "does not make sense" because Congress went to great lengths to establish payment rates.
Under the new health care law, the administration was supposed to establish payment-reporting procedures by Oct. 1, 2011.
Fourth, national health systems could craft payment policies to create incentives for disclosure of data needed to interpret genetic tests – for example, establishing payment codes for public deposit and interpretation of genomic data, in addition to performing the test itself – thus rewarding firms that disclose valuable data.
