Our structural studies, together with those from other laboratories, definitively establish that DNA quadruplex formation is not restricted to Gn repeat sequences, with their characteristic stacked uniform G·G·G·G tetrad architectures.
The duration of the first Tube Test after rearrangement negatively correlated with the initial social rank of the animals, i.e., animals established as more dominant while in their triads completed the Tube Test slower in new tetrads compared to animals ranked as subordinate (r s = −0.35, p = 0.001).
Meiotic tetrad analysis showed that these phenotypes co-segregated in a monogenic and recessive way, and complementation tests established that the corresponding mutations belonged to one and the same gene.

The flower buds containing tetrads in their initial stages were dissected, mounted on slides and stained in 2% acetic-carmine, according to the protocol established by Ma et al. [ 37].
We have established helical oligoamides as a potent class of G-quadruplex-interacting molecules and showed that their modes of interaction differ from our previously reported macrocycle, which presumably interacts with the tetrads of the target nucleic acid structure.
Nine haplotype phases were unambiguously established for the 883 animals because they were either homozygous, had only one heterozygous site, or were part of the 96 tetrad families depicted in Figure 2. The remaining 70 sheep had two heterozygous positions, e.g. ARR/AHQ.
Haploid spores eventually re-establish diploid lines, either by mating with their own mitotic daughter cells after switching mating type (haplo-selfing), by mating with another spore created by the same meiotic event (intra-tetrad mating) or, more rarely, by mating with an unrelated individual (outcrossing) (Knop, 2006).
