Identifying at risk preschoolers and providing them with early intervention prevents the escalation of behaviour problems.
The inspector found staff did not "always use effective de-escalation techniques", which sometimes led to an escalation of behaviour.
The dependent variables in the REML mixed models were the sum number of aggressive behaviours given and received, the escalation of those behaviours (on a competition scale of increasing aggression ranging from 0 to 4 where 0 = no interaction and 4 = mouth wrestling), and the number of males competing with the focal male.
"In Dennehy's case you have the lack of empathy, then you have an escalation of aggressive behaviour over time as boundary after boundary is pushed," she says.
Using the open-field checking model alone, it is not straightforward to examine the cognitive processes that define the development and escalation of checking behaviour.
In addition, a policy was developed on non-compliant patients which includes isolation of patients exhibiting risky behaviours and escalation of non-compliant patients to senior staff.
"With that number of people who are mentally vulnerable in very stressful situations, of course there is going to be more disruptive behaviour and escalation of violence," Lee said.
