Designing water laws and legislation, ratifying multilateral environmental agreements and enhancing water institutions are among the steps taken to manage shared water resources and ensure sustainable and equitable use of the resources.
The use of a systematic, explicit and transparent process of setting health research priorities ensures that research is funded that has the greatest potential public health benefit, that research funding and outputs are aligned with the needs of decision makers [ 2], and that there is efficient and equitable use of limited resources, with less duplication of research effort [ 3].
