A total of 138 unrelated patients affected with MOH aged 22 81 were compared with a control population of 117 unrelated individuals without headache and without drug overuse, and to a population of 101 patients with episodic migraine without aura without drug overuse (MO).
We performed a genetic association study of serotonin metabolism-related genes in three population groups: one affected with MOH, one with episodic migraine without aura and without drug abuse (MO) and one control population without headache and without drug abuse.

Among the 155 subjects at baseline, 73 (47.1 %) had migraine, including 16 subjects with chronic migraine, 2 with chronic migraine and medication overuse headache, 49 with episodic migraine without aura, and 6 with episodic migraine both with and without aura.
The Bonferroni test showed that chronic migraine reported fewer sleep time compared to episodic migraine without aura, episodic tension type headache and the groups associating migraine without aura plus migraine with aura and tension type headache (Table 1, Figure 1).
One study found no difference in MSPA between controls and subjects with episodic migraine without aura, however, the groups were relatively small (14 migraine patients without aura and 13 controls) and migraine frequency was low (1.5 ± 1.1 migraine attacks/month) [6].
