There are few more entrenched areas of debate than climate change.
Mr. Zucker is not the first executive who has vowed to institute changes in entrenched areas like sweep months and program costs.
A few of the stands are nearly as entrenched in the area as the venerable institutions they're parked in front of.
"I was always interested in setting and geography," he says, "and everything that I had been writing previously - music or fiction - was about particular people entrenched in an area whose geography and environment shaped who they are.
But there is no word, for example, about the top- or mid-ranking leadership of the main groups that were entrenched in the area, such as the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), the Haqqani network, the many foreigners, or the three native Waziristan-based militant groups.
"The gang was so entrenched in that area, and had been that way for two decades, our District Attorney [Birgit Fladager] wanted to use some out-of-the-box thinking," Mariscal explains.
The Taliban have long been entrenched in many areas of Zabul Province, and a Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for what the group said had been an attack on the helicopter, but offered no details.
This August there were double the number of attacks in Afghanistan as in August 2009, and the Taliban have encroached into northern Afghanistan, while remaining entrenched in many areas of the south and east.
