Two Enterprise agencies in New York worked with the History Channel on the sponsorship, Mr. Berning said: Avrett Free Ginsberg, part of the Interpublic Group of Companies, and PHD, part of the Omnicom Group.
The government is working with enterprise agencies, Event Scotland and industry body Scotland Food and Drink.
"Through our enterprise agencies, the Scottish government is strengthening Scotland's economic links in overseas markets.
He added: "With the levers we currently control in Scotland, the government and our enterprise agencies are doing everything within our powers to secure new investment and employment.
It said "governments at all levels" should ensure that subsidies were available to provide connectivity and loans of equipment to bring communities online, while enterprise agencies should provide similar support to local small businesses.
"This government and our enterprise agencies are doing everything we can to support recovery, and to retain Scotland's position as the most competitive environment for business in the UK".
A spokesman for the Scottish government said: "Scotland is in a prime position to exploit global subsea opportunities and the Scottish Government and its enterprise agencies are committed to working closely with Subsea UK to support the industry's international ambitions as demonstrated by the recently published Doing Business in Brazil and Doing Business in Australia guides".
