With neither President Mahinda Rajapaksa's regime nor the Tamil political parties being able to agree on any productive steps that can be taken to ensure reconciliation, the government is now facing a third U.S.-sponsored resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.
In Foreign Affairs, Richard N Haass and Martin Indyk outlined that "the highest political priorities [in Iraq] will be ensuring communal reconciliation and an equitable sharing of oil revenues".
This can be done by "preventing the outbreak, escalation, continuation and recurrence of conflict, addressing root causes, assisting parties to conflict to end hostilities, ensuring national reconciliation and moving towards recovery, reconstruction and development".
Unless they do, no amount of truth will ensure complete reconciliation.
