Engineering support services group Babcock International said yesterday it was making 290 workers redundant at its Rosyth dockyard in Scotland.
The engineering support services group said it had traded well in the third quarter following a strong first half, with the economic climate continuing to support outsourcing.
That's Babcock as in Babcock International plc, which describes itself on its website as the "UK's leading engineering support services organisation".
The groom, also 29, works in Egg Harbor Township, N.J., developing software for Basic Commerce & Industries, a systems and software engineering support services company with headquarters in Moorestown, N.J.
"The acquisition of such a high quality and complementary business is in line with our strategy to be the leading engineering support services company in the UK," said Mike Turner, chairman of Babcock.
Ahead of a meeting with investors and analysts, the engineering support services group said first half trading had remained positive, and it repeated that full year results would be in line with expectations.
"This initiative is in line with Babcock's stated strategy to grow from its position as the UK's leading engineering support services company in both the UK and overseas.
