In the ferroelectric phase or the low temperature phase, the parallel arrangement of the CF2 dipoles of the zigzag chains were found to be the energetically stable packing structure of the chains.
The superposition of the typical LRR and CC-LRR domains does not lead to such close contacts, however, it results in an energetically unfavorable "knobs-into-knobs" packing with voids (Figure 3).
