The educational goals of the simulation are to enable the students to acquire and understand subject specific knowledge, but also to improve their generic management skills related to planning, budgeting, decision-making, and team work.
The center, which sits in a research park developed by the University of Maryland, will also oversee a partnership with the school that will pair undergraduates studying atmospheric and oceanic science with federal researchers, and enable the students to become government-certified meteorologists and oceanographers.
In order to achieve this and enable the students' community better understand complex energy data, the display of the data in the students' portal has been enriched with animations, graphical statistics, historical data, comparative school energy data, average factor, information on the best performing school, etc.
This activity uses a model of the Virtual Ecosystem with three species in it: grass, rabbits, and hawks, enabling the students to explore the effect of predation on the prey population.
The majority of the WBL providers in this study exercised a relaxed, even casual, approach and this enabled the students to draw on some of the informal aspects of learning, such as the learning that can occur through colleague interaction and involvement in an activity (Felstead et al. [2005]; Harris et al. [2001]).
Simulated assessment enabled the students (N = 5) to explore, rehearse, and consolidate areas such as construction as shown in Fig. 2 as a way of creating meaningful practical knowledge in the context in which it was acquired the construction workshop at the TAFE Institute.
"Immediate feedback," Carnegie Learning explains on its Web site, "enables the student to self-correct and leads to more effective learning".
It enables the student to learn new informations and correlate these with previous experiences, demonstrating innovation and flexibility to problem- solving.
"Letting each student evaluate 3 assignments both frees time for the teacher to focus on other aspects of the course and enables the student to learn more," says Kofoed Wind, who is currently studying for a PhD at The Technical University of Denmark (DTU), focusing on machine learning and data analysis.
