In patients on mechanical ventilation, transfer out of bed was achieved in 68 % of patient-days and 80%% received at least one EM activity.
Only 1% of these EM activities were associated with an adverse event.
The EM microbiological activity was determined with the fluorescein diacetate enzymatic hydrolysis (FDA) method, using the optimized protocol for soil samples developed by Green et al. [13]; the microbiological activity was expressed in terms of the amount of fluorescein (mg/kg of EM/h) produced through FDA enzymatic hydrolysis.
To test whether PPLP2 possesses EM-lytic activities, we performed an erythrocyte lysis assay, using recombinant full length PPLP2 (PPLP2RP3, see Fig. 1A).
