At the fair at P.S. 375, organized by State Senator Eric Adams, rows of tables filled the gymnasium, staffed by representatives of employers that included Time Warner, Citibank, Barclays, Cablevision, the New York Fire Department, the federal Department of Homeland Security.
"Until we talk about the contract between employer and employee that includes health benefits and a living wage, we fool ourselves that this prosperity is deep and lasting," said Harvey Robins, who was the deputy commissioner of the Human Resources Administration in New York City under Mayor Edward I. Koch.
Based on what the group refers to as "positive feedback from Mustached Americans," it has compiled a list of lip-spinach-loving employers that includes, among others, the U.S. Postal Service, Ford Motor Co., Harley Davidson Motors, the NFL's St . LouisRams, MLB's Cincinnati Reds, Limited Brands and Pizza Hut.
"Holders of employer stock that includes net unrealized appreciation can benefit from direct gifts to charity," he said, "because only the basis of the stock must be picked up as income, but a charitable deduction is available for the full fair market value of the stock, subject to the general rule limiting charitable deductions".
The fund company recommends that investors try to save the equivalent of 15% of their gross incomes annually (that includes employer contributions to 401(k) plans).
E-Verify's flipside is employer sanctions that include fines and license suspensions.
It would also require employers to provide housing that includes toilets, heating, lighting, water, stoves and refrigerators.
Unlike the smaller software firms snapping at its heels, RIM offers employers a complete service that includes both software and hardware.
The proposal also has support from Rx Health Value, a coalition of employers, patients and insurers that includes AARP, the A.F.L.-C.I.O., General Motors, Kaiser Permanente and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
