Several studies have addressed aspects of the problem of spontaneous emergence of action thoughts.
We used a neural-network model of primary sensorimotor, secondary, and "higher" association areas in the frontal and temporal lobes to simulate the cortical processes underlying the emergence of action intentions and decisions in the human brain.
To address these issues, we simulated learning and spontaneous emergence of action thoughts in a neural-network model that closely replicates neurophysiology, structure and connectivity of relevant primary sensorimotor, secondary, and higher association areas in the frontal and temporal cortex (see Fig. 1, panels A C).
Although here we focused on modelling cortical structures and the spontaneous emergence of action intentions within them, we should note that the basal ganglia and cerebellum also play important roles in the preparation and control of action – e.g., (Jueptner & Weiller, 1998).

The minimal architecture has implications for theorising about the emergence of joint action, for human machine interaction, and for understanding how coordination can be facilitated by exploiting relations between multiple agents' actions and between actions and the environment.
We propose that perceptual processing develops in close association with the emergence of related action skills within the same individual.
In addition to providing a cortical-level explanation of existing neurophysiological and neuroimaging data on the emergence of voluntary action, the model makes a number of testable predictions.
Taking a developmental approach to this issue allows us to assess whether perceptual processing develops in close association with the emergence of related action skills within the same individual.
Flight-or-fight states are easier to manage in therapy if the patient and therapist are able to identify early somatic precursors (movements or sensations that herald the emergence of this action pattern)—for example, the furrowing of the eyebrows, the tensing of the jaw, or the clenching of a fist, any or all of which may occur prior to the emergence of the full pattern.
The drive to understand the emergence of cooperation – actions of benefit to both actor and recipient – in communities of selfish individuals has generated a large body of theoretical and empirical research in recent decades [ 1- 14].
