In Volvox, blue light elevated the transcript level of CDKB1 only in the somatic cells.
However, introducing gNANOG and dCas9-VPR together could elevate the NANOG transcript level by up to 150-fold in 293FT cells, indicating that it has a robust gene activation function (Fig. 2C).
Based on our mating assays, we have demonstrated that deletion of the SSN8 gene results in enhanced mating filamentation, whereas artificially elevating the SSN8 transcript level reduces mating filamentation, suggesting that C. neoformans Ssn8 plays a negative role in heterothallic a α mating process.
