The phrase 'effort of' is technically grammatically correct. However, it is not commonly used in written English, and it can be easily misinterpreted. Instead of using this phrase, you might want to reword your sentence. For example, instead of saying “The effort of the team was successful,” you might say, “The team's efforts were successful.”
