To determine the reversibility of the ultrastructural changes and the time for restoration of the BBB to small (lanthanum nitrate, m.w. 433 Da) and large (horseradish peroxidase, m.w. 40,000 Da) tracer molecules, i.e. to estimate the duration of the therapeutic window for tight-junction-based drug delivery to the brain.
The present study was designed to explore the effects of lanthanum chloride (LaCl3) on the invasion and migration of cervical cancer cells and the underlying mechanisms.
Several follow-up studies even showed positive effects of lanthanum carbonate on bone mineralization.
Therefore additional RCTs should be conducted to investigate the effects of lanthanum in peritoneal-dialysis patients.
However, the study did not evaluate the effects of lanthanum on mortality, vascular calcification, and bone disorder.
Despite concerns about long-term effects of lanthanum, long term follow up for 6 years has not supported these concerns [ 15].
Moreover, it did not provide the detailed side effects of lanthanum on bone, plasma, and liver contents nor include peritoneal-dialysis patients.
Future studies with larger sample sizes and longer durations must be conducted to assess the effects of lanthanum on not only biochemical outcomes, but also on mortality, cardiovascular events, vascular calcification, and bone disorder.
XRD patterns of the supports (Fig. 2a) exhibited a small degree of variation in peak intensity which may be attributed to the dilution effect of the lanthanum additive.
