The Health Belief Model HBMM) suggests that adherence behaviour is influenced by perceived severity (beliefs about how severe the condition is), perceived susceptibility (the extent to which the patient feels at risk of suffering from the condition) and the effects and disadvantages of the advised behaviour [ 21, 22].

H3a and H3b posit moderating effects of the intermediary advise context (advice to participate versus participation out of one's own interest, coded as 1 versus 0) on the impact of the benefits usefulness and enjoyment respectively on consumers' intention to use a health recommendation system.
Those trials should especially focus on the effects of theory-based intervention development, combined with the effect of tailored advise and feedback [ 17].
