Two longtime editors of Consumer Reports, the bible of careful consumers, have found themselves on the wrong end of a review.
They include the common symptoms of each condition and, while written by former editors of consumer pet manuals, show the names of the last veterinarians to review them for accuracy.
So says the editor of Ethical Consumer, which describes itself as the UK's leading alternative consumer magazine, and which has this month published a personal finance guide to carbon divestment that recommends a number of best-buy products in banking, savings, mortgages and investment.
After many years of procrastination I spent some time as editor of a consumer insight agency where I monitored trends and saw increasing evidence that the market was shifting in my favour.
Sara Cremer, the former editor of such consumer titles as New Woman and Eve, has been lured across the great magazine divide to become editorial director of Redwood Publishing, where her portfolio includes Your M&S, Zoom Zoom for Mazda, and the rather iffy-sounding Contact, which turns out to be from the Royal Mail.
"The sale of traditional incandescent light bulbs is being phased out as part of the Government's plans to reduce CO2 emissions, so we'll all have to switch to energy-saving versions in the next few years," says Martyn Hocking, the editor of the consumer magazine Which?. "The good news is that, as well as being better for the environment, energy-saving bulbs are better for your wallet.
"Nike was targeted by campaigners because it was the world's best-selling brand and because initially it denied responsibility for any malpractice that may be taking place in its sub-contractor factories," Rob Harrison, editor of Ethical Consumer, told The Guardian in 2012.
Kevin Brasler is executive editor of Washington Consumers' Checkbook and Checkbook.org, a nonprofit organization with a mission to help consumers get the best service and lowest prices.
"In the context of the way people look at their homes," said Warren Shoulberg, editor of Home Furnishings News, "consumers are more design savvy than they ever were because they have been exposed to all these products".
Jason Lancaster, editor of the consumer-information portal Accurateautoadvice.com, had the opposite fear: that driverless cars will never make it out of testing and into circulation.
