Therefore, we concluded that the A-to-I RNA editing and the expression of the corresponding editing substrate did not show the same tissue preferences in our study.
While editing or modifying the expression of particular regions of an organism's genome in every tissue and cell may be a strategy for some basic and therapeutic applications of RNA guided genome editing, there are situations where these changes would need to be controlled more directly.
For example targeted genome editing via CRISPR/Cas9 enabled the expression of the wild-type Fah gene and the survival and expansion of rescued hepatocytes in adult mouse liver.
The initial report of mRNA editing also demonstrated that the expression and activity of the specific RNA editase is promoted by insulin [ 90]; hyperinsulinemia is a major risk factor for AD [ 94] and has also been linked to an increase in cognitive markers of premature brain aging in individuals without AD [ 95].
