In addition, LUS, using scores based on the number of B lines, can monitor extension of pulmonary edema, the amount of extravascular lung water, and the corresponding decrease in lung aeration [ 76, 77].

As the disease progresses, this swelling, or macular edema, decreases the amount of blood delivered to the retina.
The gross observational data collected on wound healing (degree of inflammation, edema, erythema, induration, amount of exudate, wound-bed environment, and re-injury/secondary wounds) (data not shown) supported the significant improvements in wound width, re-epithelialization, granulation tissue formation, and wound maturity seen with topical application of SCIO-469 compared to vehicle alone.
However, eventually alveolar edema will develop if either the amount of interstitial edema overwhelms the epithelial barrier and overflows into the airspaces (as in severe hydrostatic edema) or there is epithelial injury (as in severe ALI).
The amount of edema was significantly related to dynamic strain (edema 188 153 × dynamic strain, R 2 = 0.48, p < 0.0001).
