To encourage other businesses and developers, Redlands may hire an economic development director.
"I'm not familiar at all with Lindytown," says Mr. Lodato, the county's economic development director.
"The library doesn't operate in a bubble," said Melissa Lopez, the city's economic development director.
"We gambled on it," said Peter Beronio, the city's economic development director.
"First it was marketing hunting," said Tee Miller, Georgetown's economic development director, who owned the building that housed Mr. Walters.
Mr. Bonner served as San Francisco's economic development director under Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr. during the 1990s.
According to Robert B. Gregory, the city's economic development director, there are about 2,000 people living downtown.
By the mid-1990s, unemployment had reached 15percentt, according to Don Ayres, Millville's economic development director.
While Plano, Richardson and Addison have passed resolutions scolding Frisco, its economic development director, James L. Gandy, is undeterred.
"Sometimes God just smiles," said Delaine Rogers, a lifelong resident who is the city's economic development director.
She quit her job, ran for the elective office of economic development director and wondered whether the city could change.
