The remainder of Molecular Ecology papers published in 2009 2012 as well as all AJB papers from 1996 2012 were screened manually using the Scopus search engine (Elsevier; http://www.scopus.com) by searching for the keyword "microsatellite*" in titles, abstracts, and key words while excluding the words "Animal," "Animals," or "Aves".
