In order to improve the assessments of future forest trajectories, our objectives here were (i) to operationalize and describe the coupling of human and natural systems in the context of landscape-scale forest ecosystem management, and (ii) to demonstrate simulated interactions between the social and ecological spheres in the context of adaptation to a changing climate.
But not only can environmental sources of uncertainty be connected, but the uncertainties of social and ecological spheres can also interact: An example is invasive alien species that are facilitated by human activity and trade, which increasingly cause problems for ecosystem management (Leung et al. 2012).
Trigoniulus corallinus therefore represents a potentially intriguing model for future work in developmental, ecological and evolutionary spheres of scientific investigation, and the initial genomic resources presented here will be of great interest to a variety of fields.
