For the AA and AD splicing events, 72.1% and 61.1% of these events, respectively, changed the frame of the protein, which supports our earlier inference that the majority of the AA and AD events could alter the frame if translated.
In conjunction with our earlier inference that A. fulgidus forms an outgroup of the methanogenic archaea, these results suggest that the above three groups are related in the following manner: Thermococci → A. fulgidus → Methanogens.
However, the sister status of the Marquesan taxa with two Society Island congeners, S. diaphana and S. burchi, is consistent with an earlier inference [ 44] of dispersal and colonization among these two archipelagoes.
