The young, impossibly sexy Gary Cooper and the sleek Fredric March play American bohemians in Paris, a painter and a playwright, who meet another American, a commercial artist named Gilda (Miriam Hopkins, above with March, left, and Cooper), and each decides that he wants her.
They encounter a hairpin bend, where Colin gets jammed, and then, most horrifically, to water – unable to see how long it lasts, and with retreat impossible, they each decide that it's "better a quick road to forgetfulness than a lingering one" and push on through.
Among this weekend's must-sees is Yasujiro Ozu's masterpiece "Late Spring" (1949), about a father (played by the great Chishu Ryu) and daughter (the equally sublime Setsuko Hara) whose harmonious life together is shattered when each decides that the other's life might be improved by marriage.
But as the author struggled with each, he decided that these seemingly incompatible characters should meet and interact.
Both felt a real connection, and despite the fact that they didn't know each other, decided that it would be fun and funny to start their own podcast about, basically, getting to know each other.
