We have recently reported an integrated and comparative analysis of the transcriptome of E imeria acervulina, E. maxima and E. tenella, including ORESTES data produced by our group and publicly available ESTs (14).
E. maxima sequences of north Indian isolates grouped in a long form of E. maxima clade.
These results demonstrate that the Gam82 recombinant protein protects against E. maxima and augments humoral and cell-mediated immunity.
The multivalent subunit vaccine provided partial protection against E. tenella, E. necatrix, E. acervulina and E. maxima challenge, and resulted in ACIs of more than 170.
Based on variable sequence regions, specific primers were constructed for the differentiation of five Eimeria species (Eimeria acervulina, E. brunette, E. maxima, E. necatrix, and E. tenella).
The vaccine could provide partial cross-protection against the challenge with E. necatrix and E. acervulina, but not with E. maxima.
Each dose of vaccine contained 300 500 sporulated oocysts of each Eimeria acervulina, E. maxima and E. tenella which are specific to different sections of the intestinal tract.
Animals vaccinated with Gam82 and challenged with E. maxima showed lower oocyst shedding and reduced intestinal pathology compared with non-vaccinated and parasite-challenged animals.
This is apparently the first report of definitive experiments to quantify a crowding effect in E. brunetti, E. maxima, E. mitis, E. necatrix and E. praecox.
Only long ITS-1 sequences of E. maxima could be generated in the present study and it had 80 100% identity with published sequences.
The intra-specific similarity coefficient within five isolates of each species of, E. acervulina, E. tenella, E. maxima was 74, 82 and 72%, respectively.
