Preliminary results of the new excavations realised during the past 10 years at the Gontsy site (Ukraine) are given here, placed in the context of the famous late Upper Palaeolithic mammoth bone dwelling settlements of Eastern Europe.
The knowledge of the area of the mammoth bone dwelling settlements is today limited to the middle and upper Dnepr basin over a landscape of about 400×200 km2 and within a chronology between 15 000 and 14 000 BP.
During July and August 2010, we sampled participants living in an area of Eastleigh North Division called Section II, which has a large number of multiple dwelling settlements and single-room occupancy units as well as a large number of small shops.

Following a hunch that came during a sleepless night in July 2008, Wu traveled 25 kilometers downstream from the gorge, where a major earthquake had destroyed numerous cave dwellings in a Neolithic settlement called Lajia.
