In order that the risk to factory workers caused by endotoxin contamination of additives produced by fermentation using E. coli or other Gram-negative bacteria can be assessed, data on dusting potential (expressed in g/m, preferably by the Stauber-Heubach method) should be provided.

Dusting potential and endotoxin activity (LAL assay) can be used to assess the risk to workers by inhalation.
