The 2-year duration-of-use requirement was based on results from several studies of vision [ 19, 20] and the eye [ 12] indicating that short- versus long-term tamoxifen use can be distinguished operationally using a 2-year cutoff.
The 4-month duration-of-use requirement was included to help ensure that the medications had time to act and that the body's response had a chance to stabilize [ 21, 22].
The severity of the disease was assessed with SaO2%, a clinical score, the duration of oxygen requirement, and the length of hospitalization.
