Of note, addition of Y27632 did not significantly affect proliferation of hPDCs cultured in any of the differentiation media as compared to untreated controls over the duration of the differentiation experiments (data not shown), indicating that Y27632 was not toxic to the cells.

It can be subdivided in onset, rate and duration of cell differentiation (Plomion et al. 2001; Deslauriers et al. 2003; Deslauriers and Morin 2005).
This trait is directly affected by the spikelet number, which further depends on the duration of panicle differentiation and rate of spikelet formation.
The agronomically favored traits include a higher number of tillers, larger panicles, more number of spikelets, proper duration of panicle differentiation, longer and slender grains, optimum grain filling and shorter plant height (Sakamoto and Matsuoka, 2008; Xing and Zhang, 2010).
