We suggest that published estimates of heritabilities for resistance to microparasitic diseases, corresponding SNP effects and study design should be re-appraised given knowledge of the disease biology, i.e. likely exposure to infection, properties of the diagnostic tests and duration of data recording.
For example, exposure probabilities may depend on the duration of data recording, with the probability of exposure increasing with time.
