The durable haplotype association observed at this locus is particularly interesting because defects in NOTCH signaling, which are associated with BAV [7], [8], have defective basement membrane around the early aorta and show down-regulation of ENG [44].
But Weiner doesn't simplify his argument by dismissing or condescending to the clan system; he engages with the very real benefits provided by one of the most durable political associations in human history.
