As large-scale high-stakes language tests in China including the GSEEE have rarely been screened for item bias (Fan and Jin 2012), the paper calls for moderation panels to conduct on-going technical examinations and review draft test materials in a systematic manner.
Two re-examinations were undertaken of this cohort, first, in 1982 1984 (between 4 and 40 years after the draft board examination, mean age 35 years, range 22 64) and second, in 1991 1994 (mean age of participants 45.6 years, range 33 75).
From Table 1 we calculated the OR of having a BMI = 31.0 kg/m2 at the draft board examination.
Therefore, the data actually consists of a cohort with two nested sub-cohorts based on the different sampling fraction across the range of BMI at draft board examination.
In total, 1,184 (475 obese and 709 randomly selected) participants were genotyped, indicating that the randomly selected group represent 141,800 men originally identified at the draft board examination.
The odds ratio for having a BMI≥31.0 at time of draft board examination was 2.05 (95% CI, 1.55 2.71; p<5*10−7) for the AA genotype versus the TT genotype.
In total, 1 557 (726 obese and 831 randomly selected) participants were genotyped for the present study, indicating that the randomly selected group represent 166 200 men originally identified at the draft board examination.
Similarly, for obese men included in the present study the median BMI at draft board examination was 32.5 (range: 31.0 51.8) versus 32.8 (range: 31.0 45.9) among obese men not included in the present study (for any reason).
The participants included in this study were originally identified among a total of 362,200 Danish men who underwent the mandatory draft board examination in Copenhagen during 1943 1977 and in the remainder of Sjælland during 1964 1977 [13] [15].
The median BMI at time of draft board examination was 21.3 (range: 15.7 30.9) among randomly sampled men included in the present study compared to a median BMI of 21.4 (range: 15.7 30.9) for randomly sampled men excluded from this study (for any reason).
