We presume the 55 kDa species (double-cross, Figure 2B) to be full-length FLN1-HA prior to import into the chloroplast, and the faster migrating species (single-cross, Figure 2B) to be FLN1-HA after import and transit peptide cleavage.

As with P41, we were able to disrupt the CDS of P. berghei metacaspase2 by targeted double cross-over recombination (Additional file 3 Figure S1), confirming the non-essential role of this protein in ABS.
We targeted P. berghei p41 by disruption of the CDS through double cross-over recombination (Additional file 3 Figure S1) and confirmed that this protein was not essential in P. berghei ABS.
