Although clinical studies of the high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) and its effect on positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) have been done, the washout effect has not been well evaluated.
The addition of an MCT1 inhibitor to the system caused large drops in the HP lactate signal, as did a washout protocol that rapidly removed the HP pyruvate bolus.
