These findings have encouraged extensive research into identifying potent TRAIL-sensitizing agents that do not sensitize non-transformed cells.
First, the increased behavioral response (mechanical hyperalgesia and allodynia) to stimulation of these fibers acts as a measure or barometer of central sensitization within the central nervous system, and second, these A-nociceptors do not sensitize but their basal excitability can be reduced by rapamycin.
Interestingly, the Tat control subline treated with both ALP compounds and LPS/CHX still showed the same high cell death as observed with the treatment of LPS/CHX alone, and thus this indicates that, in contrast to the Tat cells, the ALP compounds do not sensitize the Tat cells to the LPS/CHX insult.
