Hence, the concepts of DNA structural deviation, followed by inadvertent action of a physiologic DNA enzyme to cause the break and rejoining by NHEJ have more general relevance.
We found that a minor DNA content deviation (DI ≤1.20) indicated a significantly higher risk for recurrence compared with the patients with diploid tumors, whereas the PFS and OS were not significantly different.
Importantly, we observed that luminal-B tumours showed higher levels of DNA methylation deviation from the normal samples, compared to luminal-A tumours, a trend which was also seen at the level of gene expression (Fig. 3).
Although restriction enzymes were originally discovered for their ability to attack invading DNAs, it may be understood because such DNAs show deviation from this epigenetic status.

For homogeneous DNA, the standard deviations, σ, for tilt and roll are identical and related to DNA bending persistence length, P, by σ = (1/P 1/2 where P is given in base pairs and σ is expressed in radians.
Our null model reflects the genome-specific nearest neighbour preferences, codon biases, and heterogeneity of the DNA sequence; therefore, deviations from expected occurrences are more likely to reflect their functional significance of the investigated sequence patterns.
