The source of the FM component is attributed to the BMP model on DMO [24].
Eyes being evaluated were initially separated into two categories based on electronic medical record chart diagnoses: DMO (24 eyes) or no DMO (98 eyes).

Non-VTDR and VTDR were present in 10.8% (mild 7.5% and moderate NPDR 3.3%) and 1.4% (severe NPDR 0.86%, PDR 0.36% and DMO 0.18%) of the study patients, respectively.

A total of 22 RCTs comparing IVB with a variety of interventions as well as an observational control group with safety data were included, as presented in table 1. 2 7–27 Study populations were patients with AMD (n=7 studies); DMO (n=8 studies); retinal vein occlusion (RVO) (n=4 studies) and other ophthalmic conditions (n=3).
RCTs were included provided that they (1) addressed the use of triamcinolone, dexamethasone, fluocinolone, bevacizumab, ranibizumab, pegaptanib or aflibercept in patients with DMO, (2) had a minimum follow-up of 6 months and (3) had a minimum of 25 eyes per study arm.
Studies were excluded if they (1) evaluated laser only, (2) assessed the effect of the aforementioned treatments in macular oedema due to other retinal diseases (instead of DMO), (3) used only a single dose, (4) were combined with a surgical intervention or (5) published studies in languages other than English.
Additionally, 2 Drosophila sequences were manually added to the alignments (e.g. Dmo to FBgn0002526), 8 sequences were removed (e.g. Dgr from FBgn0015572), and one obvious misannotation/sequence error could be corrected (Der in FBgn0046689) (see also comments in Additional file 1).
