To assess the effect of the various cell division stages (T1-T5) on the gene expression during synchronized growth, a linear regression model of the form y = μ + rep + time + ε was fitted to the data, where y represents the raw expression values, rep and time the fixed replicate and time effects, respectively, and ε the random error.
